Actions prove faith is real

‘Take 2 … and … ACTION!’

I woke up in the middle of the night and lay quietly contemplating the reasons of my usual disturbances from sleep and whether I was required to brave the cold by leaving my comfortably warm bed. My thoughts drifted to God and I whispered ‘I love you’. Then it happened. In nano seconds we had a conversation which left me examining how my actions were not reflecting my faith. You see, I usually read some scripture or devotional reading or Christian writings just before sleeping so that the last images into my brain are Godly. It’s not a superstitious thing but I believe in filling my mind with whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy and the peace of God will be with me.

BUT this evening and a few others, I had chosen to spend my time on Facebook, reading the latest stories and sending friend requests.

Plays and movies start with a script and then the words are acted in a performance either on stage or on screen.

So it is in real life.

> When a husband tells his wife he loves her, she would like to see some action following the words like a gift of flowers, or the dishes washed or a date night planned.

> When a child wants a favour you’d expect some action following the words like an extra big hug accompanied by some persuasive pleading or a promise of tidying their room (which is then later conveniently forgotten).

> When a friend says ‘let’s catch up’, you’d expect some action following the words like a few diary options until you find a mutual time and place.

So it is with God, our loving heavenly father.

He spoke words and actioned them in heaven and on earth. In the Old Testament He spoke of a redemption plan for mankind and in the New Testament action followed His words in the birth, death and resurrection of His only begotten son Jesus Christ. He wrote us love letters, he recorded our family history and genealogy, he gave us inspirational talks and commandments to keep us safe and guide us on life’s journey. He sent a wonderful comforter, the Holy Spirit, to be with us 24/7 so that we would never be alone.

So it is with us. Our actions will tell us more about ourselves than our words. My late night action didn’t reflect my words to God. Now don’t get me wrong here. There is nothing wrong with social media. The world is constantly changing and the quicker we accept and embrace change then the more harmonious and adjusted we become. I’m talking here about being women who have defined our most important relationships and whose words, attitudes, faith, and trust are followed by action. Let’s be women who not only say we love God and others but let our actions show it.
