Grandparents leave a legacy

Who do you think you are?

In aspiring to create a legacy we need to look at who we are now.

Just as at the end of the financial year we calculate our assets register, we can also remind ourselves of who we are in Christ. If we confess with our mouth and believe in our heart that Jesus is the Son of God who died and rose again to reconcile us to God the Father then we are God’s daughters, his princesses, and the apple of his eye.

Some women may baulk at this idea but the truth is God did make us female. He wired us differently from males. Emotionally and psychologically our top five needs differ from those of men. We think differently and we process things differently. I’m trying not to say men are from Mars and women are from Venus!

For some women it might be difficult to connect with an adoring, doting, loving God who would give his life for us, because our relationship with our own father (or mother) has left us wanting. Our earthly father may have been physically absent, emotionally unavailable or abusive in one or more ways. Or he may have loved and adored us. All these experiences shape how we relate to Father God. Even if our own father loved and adored us we all still need a revelation of God’s love for us. Then we can see ourselves how God sees us.

We tend to define ourselves by what we do, or not do, than by who we are.

We can let a sickness define us, or a disaster, or possessions (or lack of them) or what others may say about us. What do you say about yourself?

Here is the truth

For those of you who are in Christ, let me tell you the truth about who you are:

  • You are a brand new creation.
  • You are a child of the Most High God.
  • You are unconditionally loved and fully accepted by Abba Father.
  • You are more than a conqueror.
  • You are seated with Christ and have power over the enemy.
  • You are an heir of God and a co-heir with Christ.
  • You are perfect, blameless, holy, righteous and highly favoured.

This is who you are.

When we talk about others, let’s not define them by what they have been through or what they have. Talk about them in the way God would talk about them. Guard your mouth when talking about yourself.

Our emotional response to things that happen to us offer us a first choice but our minds can decide where we end up. You’ve heard it said, ‘Walk the walk and talk the talk’ so I’m changing it slightly and saying walk the Christian walk and also talk the walk. You are who God says you are.
