How to manage your stress

You might think that there’s nothing you can do about stress.

You might think you are stuck with whatever is causing it—even if you don’t know what it is. After all you can’t stop the bills coming, you can’t create another hour in the day, and your career and family responsibilities will always be demanding. But you have more control than you might think.

Managing stress is all about taking charge. I can help you with that.

Stress is manageable
This is not what I have in mind for taking control.

Five steps

1. We will identify sources of stress. This isn’t as easy as it sounds but the stress inventory will help you recognise stress in your life and it will tell you how stressed you really are.

2. Then we will discuss symptoms of stress and tension (so you will recognise what’s going on before you cripple yourself!)
We look at how you might be currently coping with stress and what you are telling yourself.

3. Then we will look for ways of reducing stress and how to change the situation to avoid the same problem popping up again in the future.

4. Some stress can’t be changed so I’ll give you strategies to adapt so you can gain some sense of control and I’ll give you strategies to accept what you can’t change.

5. Finally we will look at how you can nurture yourself with self-care so that you can handle life’s stressors.

Five take home ideas

I will give you five ideas you can put into practice from the day of the workshop onwards. They are called ‘mindfulness strategies’.
