Last February I invited you to adopt Micah 6:8 as your mandate for the year. It says, ”What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Now in this new year, I want to encourage you to find your unique and distinctive way to do what the Lord requires.
This Baptist News is called Together in Mission. We women have to find how to be together and then find our mission. Before we can develop a corporate identity we need to know our personal uniqueness and what is our distinctive contribution. Let me explain.
When I was appointed this role as Director, I was humbled and very puzzled. I was humbled because I knew without a shadow of doubt that God was directing my path, but I was puzzled because I knew there were far more capable, talented and godly women who were better candidates than I. I had to ask myself some questions. What did I bring to this position? What was distinctively Christine Pearce? I asked a few trusted friends to help me compose a list of my character traits and strengths. This exercise produced its own set of mixed emotions but was a positive experience.
So what do you have in your hand in 2013 that is unique only to you that God wants to use in His mission in this world? Ask some trusted friends to help you on your journey of discovery. Find a woman you admire who is a little further along in their faith journey than you and ask if they’ll share with you, pray for you and encourage you. It doesn’t matter how old you are or how young you are or how busy you are or what you did or didn’t do last year. This is a new year. Ask God what He wants for you NOW.
If you’ve heard my story you’ll know that I’ve been on a specific fifteen year journey of growing in faith, knowledge, trust, patience and uncertainty and now I have the privilege of continuing this journey alongside all of you discovering what God wants for us now—not yesterday, not tomorrow but now.
How will you do what the Lord requires?
How will we uniquely and distinctively join to be ‘together in mission’?
Let’s journey together to find some answers.
