A new year begins

What does God want?

How did you start the New Year?

A better question would be though, how will you finish the year—with a sparkle or a fizzle?

Some of us were motivated to renew our goals, to make new vows and commitments, while others of us tried to not feel inadequate when we heard sermons about finding our purpose for this year.

It’s a new thing

On researching goal setting my husband and I were surprised to find out that goal setting was only popularised in the 1980s and that people didn’t bother much before that. Personally in the 80s and 90s I was happy just to make it through to bedtime, especially when the children were little, and had real trouble working out a 2 year goal or a 5 year plan.

As I was contemplating how a single event like New Year’s Eve means different things to each of us I wondered, What does God want.

Three things

Micah 6:8 asks,“… what does the Lord require of you?” and answers straight away, “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
I think if we do these 3 things our year will be amazing.

If you are a woman in business and have set your goals, then you are probably gifted to reach them. May you glorify your Heavenly Father in everything you do.

If God has spoken to you about a particular resolution He wants you to have this year, then obey Him with a glad heart.

If you have no direction for 2012, I invite you to adopt Micah 6:8 as your mandate.
