In the course of this week we gave and received random acts of encouragement.
I was doing some business coaching this week with a young man who had bought a franchise but who subsequently, became very anxious. We talked about his career change and the lead up to this moment in time and what we discovered was that he just wanted some affirmation. He wanted someone to tell him he had made a good choice and that he would be good at his job.He wanted words of encouragement.
I was also having coffee with a friend when she gave me a gift. I had often commented on her perfume, so she surprised me with a bottle of it.
Her thoughtfulness made me feel loved and valued in our friendship.
A few days later we hosted some missionary friends who were unexpectantly passing through Adelaide on their way to take up a new position in Darwin. We gave them food and shelter and some petrol money for their journey. We were able she share life together for twenty four hours.
Then, we were given football tickets to watch the Crows play at our beautiful stadium. On the way out after the game my husband spotted a woman in her wheelchair negotiating a steep incline. In typical style he said, ‘You look like you could do with a push.’ I wish you could have seen her smile of relief. His reward was that she called him, ‘Sir’.
… random acts of encouragement.
Prophecy
The primary function of the spiritual gift of prophecy is to encourage and uplift.
Prophecy enhances natural tendencies and inklings.
… seemingly natural acts of kindness
We need to be mindful of the leading of the Holy Spirit in these seemingly natural acts of kindness. Listen carefully to the little promptings you get to call someone, email another, cook a meal, give a monetary gift, pay for someone’s coffee or speak words of encouragement and offer a prayer when needed.
- When you encourage you give courage, hope and strength.
You edify, confirm, inspire and add confidence.
You stir up boldness, release faith and bring comfort.
Let’s be women on a mission to encourage and uplift all who come across our daily path, for the Lord our God will be with us wherever we go.
